Challenge
In the heart of the Mid-South, Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Tunica, Mississippi, offers Las Vegas-style entertainment combined with southern hospitality. Sam’s Town multi-building complex with various exterior surfaces boasts casino action on two floors and 850 hotel rooms, along with restaurants, an entertainment lounge, a 1,500-seat arena, and a retail center.
Sam’s Town contracted with Valcourt for a comprehensive exterior restoration, coating and sealant project that included remediation for more than 1,500 windows of varying styles at their hotel and casino buildings. Working in a hospitality/ entertainment and casino environment provided several challenges in terms of minimizing guest disruptions while following strict security procedures. A project schedule of seven months was established for completing this entire waterproofing and restoration project.
Solution
Valcourt’s extensive knowledge and experience working in the hospitality environment played a critical role in the success of this complex project. Strong project management including collaboration between Valcourt and Sam’s Town onsite personnel team became a vital component to safely completing the three-phase project two months ahead of schedule. Valcourt employed a large-scale crew with multiple swing stages, taking great care not to disrupt guests while work was being performed over several phases.
While there were various solutions to the window repairs, one included complete removal and replacement of the 1,500 windows, Sam Town’s agreed to an equally effective but less costly phased solution proposed by Valcourt which included: removal of the existing EIFS trim, window repair, application of a liquid membrane, and application of a new EIFS trim piece. Once all remediation was complete, sealants were replaced and the entire structure was coated with 150,000 ft. of elastomeric coating. Sam’s Town was thrilled with the speed and quality of Valcourt’s performance.
