Valcourt Successfully Secures Relief for Building Owners with OSHA’s Revised Regulations

The Valcourt Group | Dec 13, 2017

McLean, VA — Valcourt has lobbied on behalf of building owners and has successfully secured relief for meeting the demands of OSHA’s recently revised regulations. On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, OSHA released a memorandum regarding new enforcement guidelines to the final rule of CFR 29 1910.27 as a result of Valcourt’s efforts.
“We identified that the market needs simply couldn’t be met due to a lack of general awareness, understanding of a very complicated ruling, and resources available to support building owners,” says Jason Robertson, Valcourt’s Window Cleaning Division Manager. “When OSHA initially announced the revised regulations, we wanted to ensure our customers had all the necessary resources on their pathway to compliance. So, we worked quickly to expand our operation, technology, personnel, third-party partners, and systems of our SafeSite Advantage Program. We also created a brand-new division specializing in safety systems. But more needed to be done to provide industry-wide support.”
Valcourt’s leadership group, with the support of their labor attorney, secured a meeting with the federal OSHA team that developed the revised regulations. Over the next few months, they worked together behind the scenes to devise a plan that would provide building owners with relief while also achieving OSHA’s goals.
“OSHA asked us to draft a position statement for formal consideration,” says Robertson. “They also requested that we obtain industry association support (such as with the IWCA) to strengthen the position during the presentation to OSHA. And we’re proud to report that our efforts were successful. OSHA granted the relief that many building owners and managers had hoped for.”
The resulting memorandum grants building owners additional time to comply if employers and building owners can demonstrate and document that they are exercising due diligence to come into compliance with the standard’s requirements. For the complete details on the memorandum, click here.
“While this is not a blanket extension, it will allow building owners to continue building operations on their pathway to fully complying,” says Robertson. “Our SafeSite team will continue to support our customers throughout this process. Valcourt has been and always will be committed to being an industry leader in safety and compliance standards – because there’s no higher priority than both supporting and protecting our clients and workers.”
